Bone Marrow Drives for Aram Markosian

Dear Readers,

Below is some additional information regarding the bone marrow drives that will take place this week to help Aram Markosian find a match for a bone marrow transplant.

Al Gore Totals Hummer

kevatarBefore Al Gore turned into a human (sometime between 2000 and 2006), most considered him an uncharismatic robot (Google “Al Gore, lock box”).  But in the past few years, he has truly transformed from boring machine to cool guy and has a new book coming out in the fall called Our Choice, the sequel to An Inconvenient Truth.

Most would consider Gore’s switch/entry to the human race timely, as we see machines not doing as well during both a recessionary and environmentally-conscious time.  Case-in-point: the auto industryAl Gore.  As the former Vice President’s stock continues to rise, General Motor’s CEO has just been forced out, the company is facing bankruptcy and needs someone to buy its Hummer brand within the next day.

It’s no accident that GM is failing at the same time Gore is riding high, because it’s really a zero-sum game. The only way Gore’s environmental activism can succeed is if the Hummers of the world fail.  So as more bad news comes from Detroit, Gore celebrates perched on top of a tall tree in a distant rain forest, whispering, “We shall succeed.  The Greenhouse gasses bad.  The Hummer must fall.”(Makes chimpanzee noise.)

Twilight Transcends Expectations. Not Really.

In case the Facebook status hysteria about the movie Twilight didn’t tip you off…the film was released on DVD this weekend.

It should come as ZERO surprise to you all that it sold a whopping 3 million copies on its first day of sales, which puts the film in the top five best first-day DVD releases in recent years.   Other films that have seen that kind of success include:  The Dark Night, Transformers and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Kudos to for sending me a coupon to rent it On Demand for free while the 2-disk DVD is being sent to me.  I watched it, twice.

Boy I Hear You In My Dreams

“I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I’m lucky we’re in love in every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday”

Give thanks for each and every day you have with your loved ones.

Also, for the 237 couples I know getting married this year, this is a very cute song.  You’re welcome.

When It Counts

Every once in a while we use this forum to get serious.  It is with a heavy heart that this has to be one of them.

We were made aware today that a 24-year-old young man from the Armenian community in Detroit, Aram Markosian, was recently diagnosed with a rare acute type of Leukemia.  Aram is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit and he needs your help.

In order to battle Leukemia, Aram will need to have a bone marrow transplant from a healthy donor.  Specifically, a healthy donor who matches the genetic makeup to that of his own bone marrow.  Therefore, there is a much better chance that he will find a match from a fellow Armenian.

How can you help?

Find your closest American Red Cross Clinic and get yourself tested.  When you register, they will ask if you are 100% of any specific nationality.   They will then swab your inner cheek and send that  information to a national bank where Aram’s doctors can check to see if there is a match. The  more donors there are, the better chance Aram or any other patient will have at finding a match.

To be a donor, you must be 18-60 years in age, in good health, with no history or cancer or heart disease and within a moderate weight range for your height and bone structure. Your blood type does NOT matter. This is a tissue match, not a blood type match.

You can donate money to help offset the high expenses associated with this disease. Please make the check out to “Armenian Bone Marrow Registry” and send your donation to the following address:

The Office of St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church
38 Elton Avenue
Watertown, MA 02472

Tips for the Next Time You Rob a Church

nor21“Satan had a big part in the theft.”

That’s what some lady in Washington told the police when she was caught stealing $73,000 from a church where she was an administrative assistant.

The 62-year old admitted that she used the money to cover household expenses because she couldn’t stand the thought of losing her home.

I’m just playing devil’s advocate here (giggity)…but if satan truly had a hand in this matter,  don’t you think he would advise her to do something a lot more interesting with the money aside from you just paying bills?!

Ooooh snap is right honey!
